Imam Khomeini's Revolution: The Living Embodiment of Ghadir

The Islamic Revolution, forever indebted to the wise guidance of the late Imam Khomeini, has served as the standard-bearer of Ghadir in the contemporary era, playing a significant role in reviving its luminous meanings and messages.

Hawzah News Agency- In a commentary piece, journalist and writer Sajjad Mirzaei argues that the Islamic Revolution of Iran and the Islamic Republic born from it represent the extension of Ghadir's message. "The message of Ghadir, in a single phrase, is the importance of Islamic governance—a government that is Islamic in its formation, continuity, and all its dimensions, and pleasing to the Sacred Lawgiver," he writes.

From Ghadir Khumm to the Ghadir of Khomeini and Khamenei

Emphasizing that the revolution and the Islamic system themselves are an extension of Ghadir, Mirzaei continues: "The Ghadir of early Islam was not realized due to the events of the time. The world after the Prophetic and Alawite governments fell into the grip of oppressive rule, and the failure to realize Ghadir ultimately led to the realization of Karbala and countless other Karbalas, until finally the last infallible Imam entered the age of occultation."

He adds that Shia jurists theorized and debated the concept of Velayat-e Faqih for centuries, until the emergence of its greatest theorist and able executor, Imam Khomeini. "The late Imam established a system that is in the process of evolving and advancing toward that ideal Islamic government. His rightful successor, the martyred Imam Khamenei, guided the revolution and the system along this path for years. Now, the standard-bearer of the revolution is none other than Imam Seyyed Mojtaba Khamenei."

The Lineage of Wilayah: From Imam Ali (AS) to the Descendants of Ali (AS)

The piece further highlights that Islamic Iran hosts hundreds of Imamzadehs and holy shrines belonging to the descendants of Imam Ali (AS), each serving as a bedrock for community-building.

It notes that dozens of prominent figures of the Islamic Revolution have been from the lineage of the Prophet's household—including the late Imam Khomeini, the martyred leader Imam Seyyed Ali Khamenei, Imam Seyyed Mojtaba Khamenei, Iran's martyred President Seyyed Ebrahim Raeisi, Lebanon's four martyred Sayyed leaders Sadr, Mousavi, Nasrallah, and Safieddine, the martyrs Sadr and Hakim, Grand Ayatollah Sistani, and the Islamic revolution's martyrs such as Beheshti, Saeedi, and Hasheminejad, among others.

From Ghadir Khumm to the Ghadir of Blood

Notably, the feast of Ghadir this year coincided with the early days of a 12-day war and the martyrdom of a number of commanders and scientists. Yet, the public street celebrations were not canceled, and despite enemy attacks, all ceremonies—including the main event in Tehran—proceeded as planned.

A Glimpse at the Leader's Message on the Anniversary of Imam Khomeini's Passing

This year's Ghadir is unfolding during an era of public resurgence following the martyrdom of a leader of the Ummah, under the conditions of a third imposed war, and under the leadership of the youthful Imam Khamenei. It also coincides with the 37th anniversary of the passing of Imam Khomeini.

In his message on the occasion, read at the holy shrine of the late Imam, the Leader of the Islamic Revolution stated: "This year marks the 37th anniversary of Khomeini the Great's departure, and the first such anniversary on which the kind father of the Ummah, the devoted and distinguished disciple and companion of Imam's school, the late great Leader and martyr of the Islamic Revolution, His Eminence Grand Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, has been invited to the divine feast, and his powerful voice and wise, penetrating words are no longer heard at the holy shrine. However, the collection of statements and writings of the founder of the Islamic Republic over ten years, and those of the martyred great Leader over thirty-six years, constitute a precious and unparalleled treasure for all of us, and a guiding light for the path ahead."

Reviving the Astonishing Capability of a Nation Devoted to Wilayah

The message further declared: "It was Khomeini the Great and the martyred Khamenei the Exalted who discovered and revived this talent and readiness within the dear Iranian nation, and always gave it special regard. The great Imam—who undoubtedly, with his exemplary piety, guarded what flowed from his pen—made a monumental assertion in his testament, writing: 'I boldly claim that the Iranian nation and its millions-strong masses in the present era are superior to the nation of Hijaz at the time of the Messenger of God, and Kufa and Iraq at the time of the Commander of the Faithful and Hussein ibn Ali.' Today, the entire dear nation takes pride that, with its new resurgence alongside the Resistance Front, it has become a source of admiration before the watchful eyes of the world and free nations, once again manifesting the truth of this passage from Imam Khomeini's testament. As the martyred Leader put it, that powerful hand which was able to stir the vast ocean of the nation into motion was the steely character, the assured heart, and the Zulfiqar-like tongue of the great Imam and exalted Khomeini—who was able to bring millions into the arena, keep them there, and teach them the direction of movement."
